Cottage Build: Ridge Cap
Notes:
We made this ridge cap to cover the center point on our roof. It will help wick rain down the sides of the roof and keep it out of our home. Our roof is made of metal, which is why we chose to use metal flashing for this project. You could do this project on a garage, shed, or metal building (like our house).
Things You Need:
- Roll of Metal Flashing
- Two 2x4s
- Hammer
- Measuring Tape
- Knife
- Drill
- Ladder
- Roof Screws
Directions:
1. Lay your 2x4s next to each other on a raised surface (we used an empty raised garden bed)
2. Unroll some of the flashing. Make sure it is centered over the 2x4s.
3. Hammer it down, making a fold
4. Measure the flashing for your needs (we needed two 12 ft. sections to fit our 24 ft. roof)
5. Cut the flashing with your knife
6. Continue to hammer until everything is super crisp
7. Repeat with as many sections as you need (make sure your sections aren't too long or the flashing will be hard to work with--it's pretty flexible)
8. Carefully climb onto the roof
9. Lay one section of flashing on the roof (make sure to get it to the edge and center it)
10. Drill roof screws into the flashing and existing roof (we used about 15 on each side)
11. Repeat with additional sections of flashing
