Hello!

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by. We are Harry and Katey. Harry is the master soap maker and Katey does everything else (like making the lip balms and writing this post). We started making soap back in 2017 and we finally have a website for you to purchase through. Looking at our products, you may ask yourself, "Why should I spend $4 on a bar of soap from HK & Sons when I can buy a 4-pack of Dove for $2 from Wal-Mart?" Keep reading to discover why you should choose HK & Sons.

Overall Quality

First and foremost, when you buy from a small business, such as ours, you're going to get a high-quality product. As a soap-maker and self-proclaimed natural living connoisseur, I know what ingredients should be in soap and which ones really don't need to be there at all. If your soap label doesn't mention "sodium hydroxide" OR "saponified oils," then it is not technically soap. You should be able to identify every other ingredient in your soap (olive oil, argan oil, frankincense, etc.). If your soap has strange ingredients, you can be certain that it was mass produced with lab-made ingredients that really aren't doing anything but drying out your skin and causing you to buy more chemical products. It's a cycle that large companies wish to continue. Their soap will dry out your skin forcing you to buy their lotion to moisturize it. It's a perpetual cycle that really doesn't need to exist at all.

 Know Your Maker

Our wares aren't mass produced. We don't have machines making our soap. Harry makes and cuts every single batch of soap himself. By purchasing an item from a local business, you can actually get to know the person behind the product rather than the machine that made it. The things humans can craft with their hands is simply amazing! There's something so charming about every product being slightly different. At HK & Sons, no 2 bars of soap are exactly the same. That's because every bar is crafted with love and totally by hand. When you shop local, you can meet the person making the product. You can always find us at local markets and get to know us personally. Isn't it always more special to have a homemade cake on your birthday instead of one purchased from Costco? Apply the same concept to anything you buy. It's always more special if you know where it came from or who made it.

Shopping Local Helps Families

As a family of 3, who has been impacted by COVID-19 (with layoffs from our other jobs), we are very grateful for every purchase our customers make. Firstly, it allows us to pay our bills, buy groceries, and save for a down payment on a home. Secondly, your purchases allow us to keep our business going. We started HK & Sons out of love. We simply wanted to make soap and other natural products and we love making things by hand. Your support lets us replenish our supplies so we can keep making soap/doing what we love.

These are just a few of the reasons to support local businesses. There's many, many more ways local businesses are important. Though it may be easier and cheaper to shop at big box stores, you truly can make a difference in someone's life by supporting their small business.

Yours truly,

Harry and Katey
